Land dispute takes 3 lives in Bhubaneswar...

Bhubaneswar : Land dispute is the main cause of the triple murder in Bharatpur of Bhubaneswar. Dr RP Sharma, the Twin city Police Commissioner said, “The insistence of Shiva Prasad Panda (Bhabani 28), the prime accused in the triple murder case, on transfer of a 600 sq ft leased land in Bharatpur area belonging to Chakradhar Sahu (Kalia) and the latter’s refusal to accept the demand was the main motive behind the killing of Sahu, his wife Sukanti and Bhabani’s grandmother Shantilata Pati”.

Kalia, Sukanti and Shantilata were found in a pool of blood near their houses in Lane No 4 of Bharatpur on Tuesday afternoon. After that day no one found Bhabani. So that three police team were constituted and the search for him. Later he was found from Kantia village under Jatni police. After many investigation & interrogation with Bhabani it is clear that he is the main suspect of this murder case.

Giving a chronology of events leading up to the sensational triple murder on Tuesday, the commissioner said Bhabani had eloped with Sumi Sahoo, granddaughter of the deceased Chakradhar and subsequently married her in 2009.

After their marriage, Bhabani and Sumi were staying in Retanga village under Tamando police station. During this period, the accused had demanded the transfer of the leased land to his name on several occasions. But Sukanti, the second wife of Chakradhar, strongly opposed the demand which led to frequent quarrels with Bhabani.

In 2013 Sumi Sahoo committed suicide in Retanga. Interrogation of Bhabani further revealed that after Sumi’s death, Sukanti had given power of attorney of the leased land to her brother. This enraged Bhabani, who demanded the registration of the land in his name. “We are verifying the transfer of property made in the name of Sukanti’s brother”.

On January 26, the accused had stayed in his grandmother Shantilata’s house. The next day, the accused assaulted Sukanti with the back side of an axe on her head. He then went to the house of his grandmother right in front and assaulted her with the same axe as she supported Sukanti on the land issue. He locked the door of both the houses and waited for the Chakradhar’s arrival. When Chakradhar arrived in his house, the accused also assaulted him with the same axe killing him on the spot. Soon after the incident, he fled the place and threw the murder weapon on the way After committing the crime, the accused took shelter in Kantia Panchayat jungle. After registering 43 cases in Odisha and three cases in West Bengal, CBI said it would also be probing the role of regulators like Securities Exchange Board of India (SEBI), RBI and Ministry of Corporate Affairs as per the orders of the Supreme Court. In this sitting Trinamool Congress’ Rajya Sabha MP Kunal Ghosh has been named as an accused.

CBI named Sudipta Sen, Saradha Group’s chief, besides others, in the cases which have been registered under various sections of Indian Penal Code pertaining to cheating and criminal conspiracy.

CBI has formed a Special Investigating Team (SIT), headed by Joint Director Rajeev Singh, to probe the role of market regulators like Securities Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and RBI.

“Investigation conducted so far puts a question mark on the role of regulatory authorities like SEBI, Registrar of Companies and officials of RBI within whose respective jurisdictions and areas of operation the scam not only took birth but flourished unhindered,” an apex court bench headed by Justice T S Thakur had said in its order.

CBI Special Director Anil Kumar Sinha has been asked to monitor the progress in the probe and exercise administrative control under the overall supervision of the CBI Director.

While Sen was arrested by West Bengal Police in Kashmir last year, Kunal Ghosh was apprehended on November 23 last year in connection with the scam. Ghosh was the media CEO of Saradha Group of Companies.
